Electic Stove vs. Gas Stove

Gas stoves have traditionally been the only cooking option for women and men in India, but with technology penetrating all spheres of life, electric stoves have also become extremely popular. With both gas and electricity prices soaring sky high, sometimes it may be slightly difficult to choose between the two. Here’s a list of advantages and disadvantages for each.

Electric Stoves

Advantages:
Electric stoves have a one-time expense. Once they are installed, all you have to do is switch them on.

Electric stoves are very easy to use and maintain. The burners and surfaces are very easy to clean.

They use electricity to run, so if there is an unavailability of gas, you can use these stoves and cooktops instead.

When they are not in use, electric stoves offer ample storage space. They are also extremely stable for cooking utensils.

You only have to turn the knob around and the stove is instantly ready for use.

Electric stoves are much safer. There are little chances of sputtering, it eliminates the likelihood of a hazardous gas leak and there is no danger of catching on fire from them.

You do not need an igniter or a lighter for using the electric stove.

When using an electric stove, you do not have to worry about switching off the fans or other electrical appliances that may blow air towards the stove.

Disadvantages:
When the burner is turned off, it takes a lot of time to cool.

An electric stove is a very bad idea in areas where there is shortage of electricity. Long power outages means no cooking

Gas Stoves

Advantages:
With gas stoves, you get more even heating and food also cooks faster.

Flame can be altered to adjust the level of heat required for cooking. This is ideal for cooking food that needs to be cooked on varying foods.

LPG gives clean burning and does not cause pollution. It is also less expensive to use in the long run.

You are able to change the temperature rapidly, without burning the food. When you turn the flame off, heat is completely cut off so you can keep your food on the stove without worrying about overcooking or burning it.

Disadvantages
Gas ranges are slightly more tedious to install and you have to change the cylinder every time you run out of gas. There may be some waiting period before you get a new gas cylinder.

Gas ranges are potentially hazardous and a gas leak could cause a major accident. Hundreds of residential fires are caused due to improper use of gas stoves. A pot may boil over and quench the fire, causing gas to spread. It may be difficult to identify such a gas leak.

There is an increased risk of catching a flame with gas stoves.

You need to constantly watch over your food to regulate the temperature or you may burn your food or overcook it.
